The kick-off event at the Irvine Spectrum in Orange County on October
17, 1999 was a great success.
Appearance
on The Today Show - March 2.
Randy Mantooth and Kevin Tighe appear on The Today Show to promote
Project 51.
"EMS Today" Conference
and Exposition in
Orlando, Florida - March 24/26
Randy Mantooth made a surprise appearance
at the
opening ceremonies on Friday, March 24th. Nearly 2,000 attendees gave
Randy Mantooth a standing ovation. On Saturday and Sunday, Randy greeted
fans at the Project 51 booth, signing autographs, posing for photos, and
listening to many stories about how he and "Emergency!" inspired
the
career choices of paramedics, nurses, firefighters and even a few
physicians. A great time was had by all.
Los
Angeles County EMS Agency Medical Conference
- April 10/11
EMS perspectives on Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. April 10 at the
evening reception, Randy Mantooth and Kevin Tighe were presented with an Honorary
Paramedic certificate along with Dr. Ronald Stewart (First Paramedic Training Institute
Medical Director).
KEVIN TIGHE TO FILM A PILOT FOR TV IN
ENGLAND
Unfortunately (fortunate for him),
Kevin Tighe was scheduled to be in
England during the remainder of the Project 51 schedule. He was cast
in a role for a pilot of a TV series that was filmed there. "We will
miss him on the cross-country tour but we wish him well. In the acting
profession, those who turn down roles usually don't get called again."

Studios Kick-Off - Squad 51's Route
to Washington,
D.C - April 27
Station 51 alarm tones followed by dispatcher's voice: "Squad
51, be
en-route to Washington, D.C. with the 'Emergency!' artifacts. Be advised
that you will not be traveling to all 50 states but fans and friends of
"Emergency!" are invited to join you at scheduled events. LA clear."

Saturday,
April 15th
At or about 1:00pm on Saturday, April 15, Randy, Marco Lopez and Squad 51 were
at the Race Rock Cafe in downtown Las Vegas (on Fremont Street).
Project 51
merchandise was available for sale and Randy and Marco were on
hand to
greet fans and sign autographs. The Race Rock event will close between
4:00 and
5:00pm.

April 16th and Monday, April 17th
Randy Mantooth and Marco Lopez (with the newly restored Squad 51) were at the
International Fire Chiefs' Rescue-Med Conference at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas.
Project 51 merchandise was available.

Washington, D.C., May 3rd Randy
Mantooth
attended the National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner at the
Washington Hilton and Towers (without Squad 51). Congressman Curt Weldon
(Penn.) presented Randy with an award in recognition of the impact
"Emergency!" has had on fire and emergency services throughout the
U.S.
Project 51 merchandise was available and Randy signed autographs in
a meeting room at the Hilton on the afternoon before the dinner (May 3rd).
Chicago,
May 6th The
Chicago
event was another huge success for Project 51. Check out the photos on the

Long Beach, NY, May 10th On
Wednesday,
May 10th, at the Long Beach Fire Department in Long Beach, NY (1 West
Chester St.), Randy Mantooth signed autographs. Squad 51 and the
donated artifacts were displayed. Event time was 3:30 to 7:30 PM.
Baltimore,
May 11 (Orioles vs. Red
Sox at Camden Yards) On May 11,
2000, Randy
Mantooth was there to throw out the first pitch. Squad 51 will be on display, along
with other rescue equipment and antique engines, from 4:30 - 6:15 P.M. in
Maryland Square, in front of Gate C at Camden Yard.
Gates open at 5:30, Randy took batting practice with the
Orioles and was on the field with them until 5:45.

Friday, May 12 Randy Mantooth signed

the Steadman Station (15 S. Eutaw, Baltimore 21201) from 11am - 3pm.
Saturday,
May 13th (27th Annual
Preakness
Parade) Randy Mantooth was the Grand
Marshal
and lead
this traditional Baltimore event. Squad 51 was in the parade, as well
as Jim Page's Rescue 11, and members of the Project 51 board of directors.
The parade started at approximately 10:30am at the
corner of Eutaw and Pratt Streets (next to Oriole Park at Camden Yards)
and proceeded straight down Pratt Street through downtown and ended just
before President Street.
Monday,
May 15th (Hyattsville,
Maryland) Randy Mantooth (with Squad
51), Tim
Donnelly, Marco
Lopez, Ron Pinkard and Mike Stoker appeared at an "'Emergency!' Fest"
sponsored by the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department from 10:00am to
4:00pm. Check the Hyattsville

Washington,
D.C., May 16th (Washington,
D.C.) As part of Project 51's national
tour,
items that
became familiar to millions through the "Emergency!" television
series
were donated to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of
American History. On the morning of May 16th, there was a brief
donation ceremony at the museum. In keeping with the Smithsonian's policy,
this was not be a public ceremony. The items being donated will go into
the Smithsonian's collections for possible exhibit at some future time.
On the afternoon of May 16th, Randy Mantooth, James Page and Squad
51
participate in EMS Week 2000 festivities on the National Mall. The event,
which was organized by the American College of Emergency Physicians, was
be open to the public. Though there will be EMS Week activities
nationwide, the D.C. event was held in a large tent near the Capitol
end of the Mall.
The trip and related events were financed by sales of Project
51
merchandise, and sales projections were met, and then some - thanks to all
who
made purchases.
NOTICE: Project 51 is a not-for-profit California Public Benefit
Corporation organized for the purposes of informing and educating the
general public as to the history and importance of paramedic rescue
services and fire safety. Project 51's goals are being achieved through
the activities of volunteers and funds raised through voluntary
contributions, sponsorships, and the sale of merchandise. One of Project
51's planned activities is a cross-country tour and display of Squad 51,
the vehicle used in the "Emergency!" television series. Although
Project
51 donated artifacts representing "Emergency!" to the collection
of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, the
cross-country tour and Project 51's fund-raising activities have no
relationship to the Smithsonian Institution or the donation or delivery of
the artifacts. The Smithsonian Institution has not required that any of
the proceeds be donated or paid to the Smithsonian.

Downtown Los Angeles at the Watercourt in the California Plaza where
Squad 51 was on display.
Randy Mantooth was there to sign autographs.
