Bridger Line Gun

These rifles were carried on LA County Fire Department ladder trucks for many years. Their purpose was to shoot a thin pilot line from building to building, or across gorges, rivers, canyons, etc. They used a 45-70 rifle shell and a long round projectile that was tied to the pilot line. Once the pilot line was received at its target, its proximal end would be tied to a larger line that could be pulled across the gap and secured. The larger line could then be used to rescue people or ferry personnel and equipment from one side to the other. For the most part, rescue helicopters made this equipment obsolete.
