Dedication of Fire Station 51

Fire Station 51, Engine 51, and Squad 51, as depicted on the TV series “Emergency!” were fictional. The number “51” was selected by producers of the series because there was no active station or unit in the LA County Fire Department that currently was using that identifying number. In 1998, when the fire station on the grounds of Universal Studios was replaced with a new building, it was given the number made famous by the series that was produced by Universal. On November 30, 1998, the new station was dedicated, and the County of Los Angeles Fire Museum Association participated in the event.

Vehicles displayed at the dedication of the new Fire Station 51 included the original "Squad 51," one of the two Crown Firecoach engines that served as "Engine 51" in the first ten episodes of "Emergency!" and a Ward LaFrance pumper similar to the engine that replaced the Crowns. Note the adhesive "51" affixed to the door.
